How To Beat Azhdaha In Genshin Impact

Preparing To Fight

Before going in to fight Azhdaha in Genshin Impact, the first thing players need to do is take a look at the entrance of the Trounce Domain. There will be two colors on the seal, each representing the Element Azhdaha will take in his phases. For example, in the picture above, players can see Cryo and Hydro colors. This means the Vishap Lord will take Hydro on his first infusion, and Cryo on the second. There are a total of four possible combinations for Azhdaha’s forms. The first infusion will be either Pyro or Hydro, and the second is either Cryo or Electro.

Players need to remember not to use the same Elements as the ones marked on the entrance. This is because Azhdaha has the following resistances:

Physical: 40% Geo: 70% Other Elements: 10% The Elements he infused (after infusion): 70%

As Azhdaha will eventually have 70% resistance to the Element that he infuses, using that same identical Element will result in a large drop in DPS.

Battling Azhdaha

Most of Azhdaha’s move sets are slow and easy to dodge, where players can simply dash to the side before the boss land a hit. However, be wary of the large AoE, and don’t underestimate the power of this large dragon.

Once the enemy reaches around 66% HP, Azhdaha will infuse the first Element (Hydro or Pyro). He will do this for the second time (Electro or Cryo) at around 33% HP. Note that when he transforms, numbers may still appear on the enemy, making it seem like players can still brute force him. But unfortunately, during the infusion, Azhdaha has an unseen i-frame. Avoid hitting Azhdaha until his infusion process is complete. This can prevent Elemental Bursts from being wasted.

After infusing himself with an Element, if a character is hit by Azhdaha’s attack, the character will be marked with the corresponding Element. This debuff will periodically reduce the active character’s HP, making it deadly in a short time. Luckily, this effect can be nullified by having a shield, so this protection is essential against this weekly boss. Players can also utilize cleansing to remove the debuff. Travelers can do so by countering the debuff with another Element.

However, this method is far less reliable than having a shield. Instead of using this, players should save the trouble and just bring a shielder.

After entering the last phase (second infusion), Azhdaha will bury himself underground, only revealing his tail to attack. Then, he will bombard the area with strong Elemental hits, making it deadly for characters to stand around the AoE. If players don’t have sufficient protection, it’s best to stay safe and hit from far away. But if Travelers are confident of their character’s survivability, then feel free to brute force the tail.

Note that it’s impossible to kill Azhdaha before his “tail” phase is over. Even if the player empties his HP, they’ll still need to wait until Azhdaha returns to the surface before being able to beat him. So don’t get hit until Azhdaha exit his i-frame, as Getting killed in this duration would be an awful experience. Once the boss is back to vulnerability, one small hit should end the fight.

Team Recommendation For Azhdaha In Genshin Impact

To easily defeat Azhdaha, players can try bringing these units in the team:

Shielder: The team’s Shielder will be the core in the battle against Azhdaha, as his Elemental debuff will be ineffective while the character is shielded. For this job, Zhongli, Diona, and Thoma some good options. Healer: If a shielder is insufficient, then having a healer on the team will also increase the party’s survivability. This is optional. Pyro or Hydro DPS: As Azhdaha’s first infusion is always either Pyro or Hydro, having a DPS of the opposite Element (NOT the same one) will guarantee a normal DPS value. Electro or Cryo DPS

Additional Tips

Avoid using a Geo character Physical units are moderately useful, but not as much as the above roles. They don’t have a weakness to infusion, but Azhdaha has a 40% Physical resistance base stat, making it harder for a physical DPS to do much damage.
