So if you’ve been looking for a way to block and report someone in Google Photos, you’ve come to the right place. First, we’ll look at what happens when you block an account in Google Photos, then show you how to block an account, and finally, how you can find your blocked contacts. Let’s dive in.
What Happens When You Block Someone in Google Photos?
Blocking someone in Google photos does come with its pros and cons. When you block someone, a couple of things will happen. First, Google will also block the person from interacting with you in several other Google services, like Hangouts, Google Chat, Google Maps, YouTube, and Google Drive.
In this case, you don’t have to additionally block a contact in Google Drive and other aforementioned Google services. A single block in any platform will apply to all of these services.
Secondly, Google Photos will prevent you and the contact from seeing each other’s photos, videos, and comments on the platform. However, the blocked user might still be able to see some of your content.
However, this will only happen if the blocked user has a direct link to your album, and they’ll need to sign out first. Otherwise, if they don’t have a direct link or you disabled Link sharing on the album, they won’t be able to access it.
Third, if you own an album and block a contributor (someone who has added content to your Google Photos album), Photos will remove their content from the album. Conversely, if you block an album owner, Photos will remove your content from the album.
And finally, when you block someone on an album that you don’t own, you and the blocked user will not see each other’s content on the album.
How to Block Someone in Google Photos
Now that you know the repercussions of blocking a contact in Google Photos, we’ll show you how to do it. You can block someone in Google Photos in two ways: either block them directly in a shared album or block them in a conversation. Let’s start with the first one. Keep in mind that the following steps apply to both Android and iOS.
How to Block Someone in a Shared Google Photos Album
If you share an album with someone, you can block them. It doesn’t matter who owns the album, whether it’s you, the person you wish to block, or you two are just contributors to someone else’s album.
Follow these steps:
Open Google Photos and tap Sharing at the bottom. You will see all your shared albums and links. Open an album that the user is a part of. Once you’re inside the album, tap the three-dot menu in the top right and select Options. Check for the Members section and look for the user you want to block. Tap the three-dot menu next to the person’s name and select Block person. Next, tap Block in the resulting pop-up to confirm.
Google Photos will instantly block the user. It will show a “Person blocked” pop-up, and the person’s name will disappear from the Members section.
How to Block Someone in a Conversation in Google Photos
To block a contact in a conversation, follow these steps:
Tap the Sharing tab and select a conversation that the user is part of. Tap the member names in the conversation at the top. You will see the Options page with a list of all participants. Tap the three-dot menu next to the name of the person you want to block. Select Block person > Block.
You will see a “Person blocked” pop-up at the bottom confirming it was successful.
How to Find Blocked Users
You can see blocked users across Google’s services. It’s also handy when you want to unblock someone in Google Photos and other Google services. However, for this, you’ll have to use a browser (on your mobile or desktop) since it’s not accessible via the app. On your browser, visit myaccount.google.com/blocklist to find your blocked list.
You will see a list of all the people you’ve blocked. You can unblock anyone by simply clicking or tapping X adjacent to their name. To avoid having to block or unblock people in the future, check out some of the different ways to share photos and videos.
Block Contacts in Google Photos
You shouldn’t allow someone to bother you in Google Photos. That’s why the app has a block option. However, before blocking someone in Google Photos, beware of the consequences. If you’re okay with that, go ahead and block the person by following the steps above.
